Okay so I had this super weird dream last night about being chased by a giant squid in my local Walmart parking lot. Woke up sweating like crazy. Couldn’t shake it off. Figured I’d try that dream analysis opera method everyone’s talking about.
Step 1: Writing Everything Down
Grabbed my notebook right after brushing my teeth. Started scribbling every detail I remembered: cold pavement under my bare feet, smell of those nasty popcorn machines by the entrance, the squid’s tentacles knocking over shopping carts. Made sure to write down how I felt – mostly scared but also annoyed? Weird combo.
Step 2: Acting It Out (The “Opera” Part)
Cleared some space in my living room. Pretended to run through aisles while humming some dramatic tension music off-key. Key moments I acted out:
- Tripping over a speed bump (used my yoga mat as pavement)
- Grabbing a coat rack like a weapon (my broom substitute)
- Making tentacle motions with my arms all slow and creepy
Felt completely ridiculous but pushed through. My cat watched like I’d gone nuts.
Step 3: Spotting Patterns
Took break after to review my notes. Noticed three things popping up:
- Kept coming back to the bare feet detail – why no shoes?
- That annoying feeling kept happening when squid knocked over carts
- Realized I was running toward Electronics section specifically
This got me thinking about what stresses I’ve been avoiding.
Step 4: The Click Moment
Remembered I’d been arguing with my sister about our TV time. She keeps hogging the remote control every single night – that’s my electronics! The squid’s tentacles suddenly made sense – they were like the stupid cable wires tangling behind our TV stand. And no shoes? Probably feeling “unprepared” to confront her properly.
What Actually Helped
Talking to sis later felt way easier because:
- Visualized her as harmless squid (sounds dumb but worked)
- Remembered I’m not actually defenseless (symbolized by weapon)
- Laughed remembering my crappy opera performance
Who knew bad singing could solve family drama? Life’s weird.
Would I do this again? Totally – even though my cat judges me. Next time maybe dream about normal stuff like flying though.
