My Weird Drowning Dream Experience
So last night I woke up sweating buckets after dreaming I was drowning in this murky river. Felt like concrete weights tied to my ankles while fish kept nibbling my toes. Honestly freaked me out so bad I almost fell outta bed scrambling for the light switch.
Next morning over burnt toast, I remembered Aunt Carol mentioning drowning dreams predict fortune changes. Decided to test this myself using library books and my old dream journal. Grabbed three dog-eared psychology books from the dusty bottom shelf – the kind with titles like “Dream Symbols For Dummies”.
How I Tested the Theories
First thing I did was replay that nightmare scene-by-scene in my notebook:
- Dark water color: scribbled “coffee-black with green swirls”
- Struggle style: noted “flailing like electrocuted chicken”
- Weird details: added “glowy koi fish biting toes”
Checked these against the books all afternoon on my sticky kitchen table. One book said drowning means feeling overwhelmed – which tracks ’cause yesterday my boss dumped four new projects on me. Another claimed it’s about money trouble. Nearly laughed at that part since I just found a $500 parking ticket on my windshield.
Got curious about the toe-biting fish though. Called my weirdo cousin studying marine biology. He goes, “Dude, koi in Japanese culture mean luck!” Then remembered those orange suckers were exactly like the ones in Mom’s pond that died last winter. Suddenly felt like I’d swallowed ice cubes – Mom’s health’s been shaky since then.
What Actually Clicked
Combined everything like bad pancake batter:
- Work stress = feeling dragged under
- Parking ticket = money worries
- Dead koi fish = anxiety about Mom
Took two days of chewing on this, but finally saw how that nightmare squeezed all my hidden stresses into one freaky underwater movie. Started writing “Worry Lists” every night now. Keep ’em under my pillow like some voodoo charm. Weirdly? Haven’t had a drowning dream since.
Would I call it “good” or “bad”? Neither. That nightmare was basically my brain’s crude PowerPoint presentation titled “Fix This Shit”. Still hate water scenes in movies though.
